The Sonic Arts Union was a legendary collective of experimental composer/musicians, each a major figure in himself, who were involved with the fertile 1960s Ann Arbor New Music scene -- the scene from whose fringes Iggy Pop, surprisingly to some, emerged. The three surviving members -- David Behrman, Alvin Lucier, and Gordon Mumma -- reassemble for a two-night celebration (the fourth member, the great and much-missed Robert Ashley, is no longer available). On Saturday, they will be joined by a crew of colleagues and acolytes.
MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: No matter what I might have said about other places in the past, the Clover Club is really the best cocktail bar in Brooklyn. The current 10-year retrospective menu, with drawings of many of the galaxy of star bartenders who've worked there, drives home what a hotbed of cocktailian excellence this place has been. And you know what? The food really is good, especially for a spot that concentrates on beverages.
